5月《Q杂志》里头关于JAMES乐队的一个文章

FORMED IN 1982, Morrissey-approved Mancunians James initially never made it beyond cult status. The changed with the re-release of baggy anthem Sit Down in 1991. Suddenly student unions everywhere were jammed with people wearing James t-shirts. Another 14 Top 40 singles followed over the next 10 years, as did a neat-ruinous Inland Revenue investigation in 1994. The band survived that, but they weren't as resilient when singer Tim Booth quit in 2002, predictably falling apart soon afterwards

TIM BOOTH (vocals)
"After 20 years, I didn't feel like I owed anyone anything any more - I'd done my time. Since leaving James I've written a couple of screenplays - the latest one is like a Charlie Kaufman screenplay, completely off the wall. I'm training to be an actor. I had a part in Batman begins last year, playing a serial killer. Look at your popcorn at the wrong moment and you'll miss me, but it was a cool film to be in. I also teach dance classes in a system called 5 Rhythms. It's a way of getting high without drugs - you dance yourself into an ecstatic state. James were never cool, but we were influential. Chris Martin told me that we were the reason he's a singer."

SAUL DAVIES (guitar/violin)
"The atmosphere changed in the latter day of the band. Tim and Jim didn't always see eye to eye. I moved to Portugal after the split. James have legendary status over there and you can't listen to the radio for any length of time without hearing one of our songs. I moved back to England 18 moths ago and I'm now managing a band called Uncle Bob. I also run a company that teaches song writing and performance to kids. We take groups of 13 to 17-year-olds to this big building in the north of France for five days at a time and encourage them to write music. It's really not a School Of Rock thing, though."

LARRY GOTT (guitar)
"I left James in 1996. I was going one way and they were going another. When I left, the balance of power shifted. It was always me, Tim and Jim who were in control and that was a different dynamic than just Tim and Jim. Jim had the troops around him, so Tim probably felt quite isolated. I went on to study design at college and set myself up as a furniture designer - I quickly realized that the amount of creative energy required to make a decent wage as a designer is phenomenal compared to music. These days, I work at a college in Manchester, teaching kids to be pop stars. Do they know about my rock star past? No, they don't give a fuck."

DAVID BAYNTON-POWER (drums)
“I took some time out after we split – stayed at home and did the cooking for a while. I got back into music a couple of years ago. I did a European tour with The Alarm. It was back to basics – club venues, hardly any hotels, loads of time on the bus. I’m working as a freelance sound engineer in TV now.”

JIM GLENNIE (bass)
Founder member Glennie wanted to carry on without Tim Booth, but couldn’t convince his bandmates to stick with it. “I had my doubts about whether it would work, so I didn’t feel like I could offer Jim my support,” says Saul Davies. “I guess we parted feeling like we’d le each other down.” Currently living in Scotland, Glennie was last heard of co-producing British Sea Power in 2003.

MARK HUNTER (keyboards)
Hunter declined to participate in this article: his whereabouts are shrouded in secrecy. “There’s probably a lot to say, but I can’t do it on his behalf,” says Davies. “And I know he has no intention of saying anything.”

1990 Gold Mother
1992 Seven
1993 Laid
1997 Whiplash
1999 Millionaires
2001 Pleased to Meet You

都非常嗲,而且很少有乐队最后一张都做得这么好的
不过他们也真是高产啊,88-94年,每年一张。。。。

verve0521 发表于 2007-1-3 10:23

呵呵 一直这么好听 Millionaires 和 Pleased to Meet You  水准很高
